In Solidarity with Imprisoned WMW Activists in Turkey, African Regional Meeting and Indigenous People’s Summit
URGENT APPEAL FROM THE WMW SISTERS IN TURKEY
In the last week of May, 35 trade unionists in Turkey were taken into custody illegally (including WMW activists). Authorities have confiscated documents, including those related to maternal leave, violence against women, and sexual harassment as well as the WMW Action Plan for 2010, the accumulation of 12 years of women’s work. The Turkish sisters have asked us to send a letter of repudiation - urgently - to the Turkish authorities.

The African Regional Meeting ended on the 30th May with a public demonstration in Bamako, Mali. Around 50 women, from 25 countries, took part in the meeting, whose aims were to debate, exchange and organise the 2010 International Action, as well as to strengthen the WMW in Africa.
