One year after 3rd International Action

17-10-2011
A year ago today an international WMW delegation was present in the streets of Bukavu (South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo) along with 20,000 Congolese women and men to demand an end to violence against women as a weapon of war and the impunity of its perpetrators, and the demilitarisation of the Eastern Congo and of our communities around the world. This Women’s March for Peace on the 17th October 2010 was also the last day of the Closing Event of our 3rd International Action, an event in which women from 41 countries participated, in solidarity with our Congolese sisters and their struggles.

As we look back on the forums, debates and mobilisations that made up the programme of this event, we’d like to remind you of two short videos that were made by WMW friends:

- The Women’s Peace March of the 17th October in: English, French and Spanish

- Interviews with WMW international delegates at the Closing Event of the 3rd International Action in: English, French and Spanish

We’d also like to share the news of our latest WMW African publication with you. It is a book called “Feminist International Solidarity in Action” that brings together six key texts that document our 2010 International Action, such as the Women’s Manifesto for Peace, the message read at the inauguration of the Memorial to the Women Martyrs of the war in Mwenga (DRC), and the evaluation of the Closing Event in Bukavu. Please click to access this book in .pdf format in: English, French and Portuguese.
