Korean women march for peace

08-07-2005
By LEE, Sunyoung

The women in the Republic of Korea held a march on July 4th with about 40 Japanese women – from whom they had previously received the Charter and the quilt – and a representative from the Philippines – to who they transmitted those symbols of the relay.

They held a public conference on the theme "NO Poverty, NO Violence against Women, Women making Peace".

Here are some images of their parade around the City Hall in Seoul with 200 women and many citizens participating to it.

The Korean women also tied together their purple scarves, danced and shouted. They insisted: “We can build another world without exploitation, oppression, or exclusion”.

The patchwork of the Korean for the quilt means “Peace” in Korean characters.
