Benin

A national march will be held in Cotonou, in September.

Burundi

A march will be held on October 15, Rural Women’s Day.

Congo

A march will take place on October 17 in Brazzaville and in the countryside at historical landmarks.

Ivory Coast

Demonstration on October 17 in Korhogo, in northern Ivory Coast.

Gabon

A Golden Book of Women’s Grievances will be delivered to the president of the Republic on October 7, the day of the national march in Gabon.

Guinea

In mid-October, marches will be held in the capital and the regions, including a rally outside the UNDP on October 16 and another outside the National Assembly on October 17, at which a white paper will be given to the president of the Assembly.

Rodrigues Island

Relay activities will be held in four zones on the island, and a demonstration is planned for October 17.

Mozambique

A national march will be held in the beginning of October in the northern part of the country and in the capital.

Rwanda

On October 17, women will rally in villages throughout the country to call on the local authorities, and demands will be delivered to government representatives.

Senegal

A national march will be held in early October.

Togo

Following a workshop to ratify national demands, a national march will be held in Lomé in late September.

Central
America:

First two weeks of September: Central American mobilization outside the Central American bank for economic integration in Honduras.

Bolivia

Bolivia kicks off March actions on October 11 since that is Bolivian Women’s Day. There will be special programs and rallies held all over the country simultaneously. On October 17, there will be a march on the legislature to deliver demands from every department.

Brazil

>From September 2 to 7: participation in the people’s referendum on the foreign debt organizing polling places at the March committees. On October 17 there will be demonstrations in the capital cities of every state as well as a symbolic ceremony in Brasília at which the women’s demands will be delivered to the government authorities.

Canada

Three pan-Canadian events will be taking place in Ottawa in October. A pan-Canadian rally will be held on the 15th, a National Opinion Tribunal on Women's Human Rights on the 16th and a national day of lobby and meetings with the federal government members of parliament will be organized on the 17th.

Ecuador

From October 10 to 12, marches and rallies.

El Salvador

In the week leading up to October 17, large-scale rallies will be held in the country’s departments.

Haiti

On September 28, delegations from many regions will enter Port-au-Prince. On September 29 there will be a national march.

Jamaica

A march will be held on October 17th.

Martinique

A march will be held October 17 in Fort de France, the capital.

Mexico

National period to collect signatures from September 9 to 17. Relay march beginning in Chiapas and other places in the Republic and ending in New York. Each state will hold its own mobilization on October 17.

Peru

National march on October 15.

Québec

>From October 9 to 13, marches will be held in all regions of Quebec, followed by a large rally on October 14 in Montreal.

United States
of America:

A national march and rally will be held in Washington on October 15th.

Australia

Many Women's Song and Dance fests (cross-cultural sharings) will be held around the country on October 7th. Numerous trade union women's events will also be taking place. Small-scale grass-roots meetings initiated by women in workplaces, schools and communities on October 17th.

Bangladesh

On October 17th, there will be a great rally in front of the UNDP offices and World Bank in Dhaka. There will also be a human chain to protest against violence.

Hong Kong

On October 15th a rally of migrant Asian women will be held and tapestries will be deposited in front of HKSAR's chief executive’s office. Thousands of purple paper roses (symbolising sex trafficking in women) with the demands written on them will be distributed in the streets.

India

Rallies will be held at both the state and national levels in September and October, including a national rally in New Delhi on October 12 marching outside the offices of the IMF, World Bank and the UN. Women will be submitting their demands to the different levels of government.

Japon

On September 22 a national rally will take place and the Japanese demands will be presented to the government. On October 17 a nationwide day of united action will be organized to celebrate the finale of the March.

Nepal

On September 15th a public hearing will be held on violence against women. A clothesline exhibition will be mounted in which women express their suffering in writing and art on items of clothing. The national demands and copies of the signatures collected will also be presented to the government.

Pakistan

On October 10th a national conference will be held on violence against women and poverty.

Republic
of Korea

A march will be organized on October 20th during the ASEM (Asia and Europe Governements Meeting) People's Forum.

Lao People's
Democratic
Republic

Various activities focusing particularly on violence against women and equality will take place on October 11th and 12th. These events will include a seminar on gender issues in Lao society, drama presentations and sports activities.

National marches
and European rally
in Brussels:

From October 8 to 13, marches will leave from neighbouring countries bound for Brussels (Belgium). Women from all over Europe will gather there on October 14 and will take to the streets for the European March, during which cultural activities, workshops, discussions, a music festival and other events will be held.

Belgium

Regional marches will crisscross Belgium from October 8 to 13, ending in the European March in Brussels on October 14.

Croatia

September 22nd, a commemoration of the mass murder of three women will be held. Women will demand that the government declare that day the official day against violence against women.

Iceland

On October 24th, a march will be held in Reykjavik.

Italy

On September 30 a national demonstration will be held in Rome, preceded by a news conference and a meeting with the official Italian delegation that followed Beijing+5.

Luxembourg

Tuesday, October 10, when Parliament resumes sitting, a demonstration with pickets will be held outside the Chamber of Deputies. There the demands of the World March will be delivered to the Prime Minister, the Minister on the Status of Women and the Speaker of the Chamber.

Netherlands

In addition to travelling by bus to the European rally in Brussels, scheduled for October 14, many women from the Netherlands will join the Belgian March and will walk from the border to Brussels.

Portugal

A national conference on violence and poverty will be held on September 23rd and a national march is planned for October 7th.

Spain

October 10: Strike by women on the work and domestic fronts in Galicia.

Switzerland

Several regional marches will be held in various parts of Switzerland in September and October. A national march will also be held in Basel on October 13.

United Kingdom

Women in the UK are planning to organise a vigil in the evening of October 17th in London.

Egypt

A regional march with representatives from several Arab countries will be held in Cairo on September 24th.

Jordan

A national conference and rally will be held in October in Amman, following several workshops that will be taking place in the main cities all over Jordan.

Lebanon

On September 24 buses will leave from different regions in the country to converge on Beirut for a nationl march.

Morocco

On October 8 a music festival will be held as part of the March.

Yemen

A national workshop will be held on the World March demands on September 24 and 25.
