SEXUAL INSURGENCY MANIFESTO

Adopted by the World March of Women – Lima-Peru, 01/07/2006
■ ■ ■

We feminist lesbians struggle for democracy and development based on a sexual and reproductive revolution that brings an end to heterosexuality as the only form of practicing sexuality, guaranteeing corporal, sexual and reproductive autonomy and pleasure as the goal of sexuality.  We struggle for family reorganization that will break with traditional gender roles; with the patriarchal system; and with violence as a mechanism of control, subordination and expropriation of our bodies, our sexuality and our pleasure.

To achieve this, we must not only have freedoms, rights, equality, fairness, and civil and political justice, we must also have economic, social and cultural justice. We must do away with “development” based on the hierarchical and exclusionary sexual division of labor defined by the dualisms of productive/reproductive and public/private.  We must do away with violence as the foundation for social relations based on domination and subordination.  We do not accept the use of “love” as a cultural tool of alienation that negates our citizenship and individuality.

We are against the depredation and privatization of our natural resources: our biodiversity, our water, our minerals, our ocean and our forests.

We need to construct a new woman along with a lesbian feminist ethic based on solidarity, consensus and kindness that does not betray or plunder and that redistributes our resources through the State, the market and the family.

We demand the celebration of maternity and social responsibility, along with the right to abortion and public services guaranteeing comprehensive education against discrimination, violence and all forms of abuse of power.

We call for the termination of hegemonic systems of power, the termination of the armed forces and police.  In their place we support more funding for education, health services and the justice system.

We do not accept social control through the penal system or traditional morality.  Instead, we demand public security, housing, and unemployment insurance.

We struggle against transnational and national capital interests that base investment upon huge surpluses and the exploitation of women and men, resulting in prostitution, sexual exploitation and trafficking of women, lesbians, gays and trans.

We demand policies whereby men will repay their historical debt to us and to society, and will peacefully leave aside power, abuse and violence.

We women are dying, and because we live in a dictatorship of sexism, misogyny and lesbophobia, we have the right to legitimate self-defense and insurgency.  We will take to the streets and renounce cooking without pay or caring for children without social support, and we renounce having sex without pleasure or having children against our will. We are committed to fill all public space with colors, images and love, to kiss with pride, to play soccer or any other sport that we want to, in addition to taking leadership in the direction of state politics, political parties and our lives.

We are creating the conditions for all women to assume their identity and to find well-being on their own terms.
