The women of Cyprus march for the reunification of their country
17-10-2005
The women and trade union organizations of Cyprus, organized on the 17th of October at 17:00 p.m, a mass activity, participating to the global mobilizations against poverty and violence against women.
Being very active during the European regional Solidarity Relay, they continue today with two demonstrations, one each side of the Green Line that separates Cyprus.
Strongly believing to the struggle for the reunification of Cyprus and for the solution of the Cyprus problem based on the UN Resolutions and for a bizonal, bicomunal Federation, they have organized these two marches to express that strong will.
The first march, started from Eleftheria square where the Greek/Cypriot women marched through the main road. At that point the women released balloons with slogan from the Women Charter.
From the same point at the other part of the checkpoint, the Turkish Cypriot women met and started their march. The two marches continued parallel to the Green Line up to United Nations Headquarter. The two marches curried banners with signatures of women and political leaders of the two communities.
The women of Cyprus call for the solidarity of the Women of the World to their struggle.
