The Women's Global Charter for Humanity in Africa
Montréal, August 30, 2005 – The relay of the Women's Global Charter for Humanity will tour Africa between September 4 and
October 17, 2005. It will travel to the following countries :
- Sudan : 04/09 – 10/09
- African Great Lakes (Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of the
Congo) : 11/09 – 17/09
- Mozambique : 18/09 – 21/09
- South Africa : 22/09 – 24/09
- Cameroon : 25/09 – 28/09
- Niger-Benin : 29/09 – 03/10

- Senegal : 08/10 – 10/10
- Mali : 11/10 – 14/10
- Burkina Faso : 15/10 – 17/10
Throughout the relay, the women of the World March are calling
government officials’ and the general public’s attention to the contents of the
Charter. They also make quilt squares depicting the values in the Charter. Sewn
together, the squares form a giant patchwork quilt that will be presented in
Ouagadougou on October 17, at a call for world peace.
Also on October 17, women in
successive time zones will stage an action at noon, from Oceania to Americas,
thereby carrying out 24 hours of feminist solidarity. All groups of women are
invited to participate.
Peace, a core value for so many women, was highlighted during the Relay,
especially in Colombia; in Cyprus, where Greek and Turkish Cypriot women staged
a joint action; in Japan, where women showed their opposition to the country’s
remilitarization; in Middle-East when women participating at the Women in
Black’s Conference met palestinians in Ramallah.
The World March of Women is a global feminist action
network made up of 5500 women's groups from 163 countries and territories. The
World March of Women is struggling for an end to poverty and violence
against women
